Altar MinistryIn our Lady of the Assumption Parish, as in all parishes, there are many household duties to perform, such as dusting and vacuuming, washing and ironing, etc. We try to enlist the help of young and old to come each week for an hour or two to clean the large Altar area, The Blessed Sacrament area, the cry room, confessionals, 2 sacristies and the choir area; mostly just dust and vacuum these. We clean and fill the holy water fonts as well. We do the flowers, Altar clothes, linens, vestments, and candles. We make preparations for Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, and other church activities. There is always a need for volunteers. If you would like to help, please contact Henrietta at 268-7039. Boy Scouts: Troop #470: This group meets regularly on Monday nights from 6:30 PM tp 8:30 PM in the Parish Hall (gym). In addition, numerous camping and other supervised activities are conducted for boys ages 8 through 17. Also a co-ed Explorer Post has recently been added to our Troop for 14 through 22-year-old young people. For information call Paul at 324-9220. Girl Scouts: Learn more about the world we live in! Brownies is a fun way to get involved with your community. Our Brownies program offers a program for girls in 1st through 3rd grades. Contact the OLA School Office for more information at 256-3167. Catholic Men’s Ministry at OLA: The Catholic Men’s Ministry is an organization for Catholic men who work together under the banner of Unity & Charity to serve their parish community. The Men’s Ministry meets every first and third Thursdays of the month at 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Contact Scott Neary at 505-269-4827 for further information. Coffee and Donuts: This community building activity is hosted by a different parish group each month. Coffee and donuts are served after the 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30 AM Masses in the gym every other Sunday of the month during the school year. Knights of Columbus: Father Carl Hammer Council: The Knights of Columbus organization functions primarily as a family, fraternal, service organization dedicated to the religious, educational, recreational and social welfare of our parish community. The Carl Hammer Council meets every second Wednesday (for Business) and every fourth Wednesday (for social). Legion of Mary: Our Lady of the Assumption Presidium. The Legion of Mary is an organization whose purpose is the sanctification of its members by prayer and active cooperation in the work of Mary and the Church. Its members are required to lead a devout Christian life, attend weekly meetings of prayer, spiritual reading, and instruction and allot at least two hours to apostolic. If you are interested, Contact the parish office at 256-9818. Jail Presidium - City of God. The Legion of Mary Jail Presidium gives one-on-one visitations to males and female prisoners. The Legion of Mary also provide group activities that include scripture study, prayer and religious education. It promotes the return to the sacramental life of the Church to those in prison through renewal and participation. Youth Ministry (Youth Group): Weekly meetings are generally held year round from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the Merrifield Room of the parish office for high school age youth. Youth Ministers and youth meet quarterly to plan the activities for the next 3 month. Plans are based on the National Conference of Catholic Bishop’s document, “Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry. Advocacy, Catechesis, Community Life, Evangelization, Justice and Service, Leadership Development, Pastoral Care and Prayer & Worship are all topics for the Youth Ministry. Special Programs: Countdown Event - The Countdown Event is a school fund-raiser held on the Saturday before Lent. All proceeds benefit Our Lady of the Assumption School. Five Hundred tickets are sold at $100 each. Your $100 include lunch for two and entitles you to a chance to win numerous cash prized, along with the Grand Prize of $10,000.
