Library
& Reference Skills
The OLA library is one of the
most beloved places at our school. With more than 9600 volumes to
choose from, it’s no wonder that OLA students on average read at
two-three grades or more above their grade level (see test scores).
Our
highly skilled librarian helps all students to find genres of books
they love, while also teaching important reference skills that will
carry them through many more years of education. Students are taught to
become independent, life-long library participants.
It’s no secret that
assisting a child in developing a life long passion for reading makes
for great students. At OLA we understand great reading skills translate
into successful, smart kids in the classroom.
- Students learn catalog computer search
skills that can be used in any library.
- We sponsor two Scholastic Book Fairs per
year where books may be purchased.
- OLA has a "Parent Library" containing
books from reference to child rearing.
- Parents are also allowed and encouraged
to check books out from OLA library.
