Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
March 2, 2025

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,

Jesus’ two parables about poor vision reference the proverb: “Without vision, the people perish”! (Proverbs 29:18). We can learn from the illustration of a blind guide and a log in one’s eye; an untreated log and a blind guide can lead to misery and disaster! We cannot help others overcome their faults if our faults and misperceptions blind us. We all need a physician to help us confront the blind spots and failures of our weaknesses and ignorance. In today’s Gospel, Luke portrays Jesus as a compassionate physician and a shepherd of souls who seeks those in need of healing. Like a gentle doctor, He helps us recognize the struggles of sin in our lives so He can restore us to wholeness. Jesus wants us to heal so that we may become His instruments of healing, pardon, and restoration for others.

Jesus expresses a heavenly principle we can rely on: what you give to others and how you treat them will return to you. Jesus knows our flaws and sees the imperfections and sins of the heart that we often fail to recognize in ourselves. Like a gentle father and a skilled doctor, He patiently guides us to His seat of mercy and removes the cancer in our hearts. Growing closer to Christ requires us to believe the best in others and to practice kindness in judgment as our sacred duty. Today, open your heart to Christ’s loving kindness and mercy, allowing it to overflow into love, patience, and compassion toward everyone you meet.

Have a blessed day.

Yours in Christ,
 Father Edward Domme
