First Sunday of Lent
March 9, 2025
The forty days of Lent are the annual retreat of the people of God, imitating Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness. We are called to journey with Him during this special season of prayer, fasting, almsgiving, repentance, and renewal as we prepare to celebrate the feast of Easter. We, too, must follow in the way of the cross to share in the victory of Christ’s death and resurrection. Lent is the most crucial time of year to consider our sins and look at our failings. We must reflect on our sins while looking forward to being free from them. Remembering that freedom comes from honestly examining our soul from God’s perspective. As this holy season begins, invite God to transform you—growing your faith, deepening your hope, increasing your love, and helping you embrace His will more fully.

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,
When Jesus went into the wilderness to confront temptation from the devil, He was led by the Holy Spirit. Jesus did not depend on His own human strength and willpower to overcome temptation. Instead, He relied on the Holy Spirit for wisdom, courage, and self-control. Jesus understands that we cannot fight temptation alone; we need the Holy Spirit’s strength and guidance to assist us. The Lord extends grace to those who humbly recognize their dependence on Him, helping us to stand firm against the attacks of Satan, who seeks to destroy us. The Lord Jesus is always ready to pour out His Spirit upon us so that we may have the courage to repent of our sins and “fight the good fight of the faith” (1 Timothy 6:12).
