Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Family,

A wealthy young man asked Jesus how to gain eternal life. Jesus told him to make God his most important treasure, not his possessions. The man became sad because he did not want to give them up. This prompted Peter to ask Jesus what the disciples would get for freely following Him. Jesus answered honestly: those who left all for Him would receive a hundred times more in this life and the one to come. Today’s Gospel presents a paradox: We lose what we keep and gain what we give away. Whatever we give to God comes back a hundredfold. This challenges us to reconsider what true wealth is to God.

The best investment you can make in your life now and in the future is to follow Jesus. When we follow Him and share what we have, we receive a treasure that lasts forever. No one can steal it, and it’s worth more than gold and silver. Material wealth will shackle us to this earth. Guard your hearts and set your treasure on God and his everlasting kingdom. An earthly reward is temporary, but God’s love and promise of eternal life will bring lasting joy and peace.

Have a peaceful day.

Yours in Christ,
Father E. Domme
