Sin blinds us and causes us to stumble and fall, unable to rise on our own or to walk in the freedom of God’s love and truth. Jesus stated unequivocally, I am the light of the world (John 9:5). In so many words, Jesus was saying that He is the one true source of power and light that sustains life and overcomes the darkness of spiritual blindness. Jesus came so that those who are blind but open to God’s word might see.

In today’s gospel, Jesus invites us to see ourselves in this blind man—not because we are helpless, but because we are “sent”. Like him, we are called to walk in trust, even when our vision is clouded by doubt, grief, or sin. Jesus is always ready to heal us. He showed us through His sacrifice that if we follow Him and embrace God’s will, it will lead us to everlasting peace. And like the man born blind, we may find that when we feel rejected, misunderstood, or cast out—it is precisely then that Jesus comes to heal us. We are changed and transformed into Christ’s likeness if we look to Him every day with faith and strive to walk according to the light of His truth. Jesus is God’s beloved Son and the light of the world. Follow Him!

Have a blessed day!

Yours in Christ,

Father Edward Domme

copyright © 2026 Servants of the Word, source: dailyscripture.net, author Don Schwager

Our Lady of the Assumption Church

Rev.
