He listens to their grief, opens the Scriptures to them along the way, and only when He breaks bread at the table do their eyes open — and they recognize Him as the Risen Lord. It is a story of a God who does not wait for us to have it all figured out, but who draws near precisely in our confusion and sorrow, walking with us even when we cannot see Him.

This Easter season, we are invited to ask: Where is the Risen Christ walking beside us today? He may be present in a conversation that brought unexpected comfort, in the Word proclaimed at Mass, or in the simple act of sharing a meal. Like those disciples, our hearts can burn within us without us fully understanding why. Trust that burning. And when your eyes are opened — as theirs were — may you too be moved to share the joy of what you have encountered. Christ is risen, and He is with us as we walk the road home to eternal life.

Have a blessed day.

Yours in Christ,

Father Edward Domme

copyright © 2026 Servants of the Word, source: dailyscripture.net, author Don Schwager

Our Lady of the Assumption Church

Rev.
