That&#8217;s the picture Jesus paints today: a hidden treasure, a pearl beyond price, found almost by accident and pursued with joy. That&#8217;s what it looks like to discover God&#8217;s kingdom. We can&#8217;t ever pay the full price for the life God offers us, but when we&#8217;re willing to let go of what we&#8217;re clutching, we find our hands open to receive something far greater.<br \/><br \/>Jesus also tells us about a net that gathers in everything\u2014every kind of fish, without sorting or excluding. God&#8217;s welcome is wide. His kingdom isn&#8217;t reserved for the already-worthy; it&#8217;s offered freely to all who will receive it, and our work is to help draw others in, trusting God with the rest. Jesus does tell us that a day of sorting will come\u2014but even that isn&#8217;t cause for anxiety so much as an invitation. It&#8217;s a reminder that how we respond to God&#8217;s invitation matters, and that there&#8217;s still time, today, to say yes with our whole heart. And like a household bringing out treasures both old and new, God&#8217;s kingdom doesn&#8217;t erase what came before\u2014it fulfills it, deepens it, makes it new again. Nothing precious is ever truly lost.
