In today’s Gospel, He brings this home with a parable about two very different debts. The first man owed an almost unimaginable sum, worth millions in today’s currency — more than the revenue of an entire province, more than a king’s ransom. Despite being forgiven such a massive debt, this man could not find it within himself to forgive his neighbor for a debt that was only a tiny fraction of his own. The contrast is striking.

No offense done to us by another can compare to how much we owe God for our own offenses against Him. We’ve been forgiven a debt beyond our ability to repay — so much so that God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, who freely gave His life to free us from sin, from the grip of evil, and from death itself. Because God has shown us such mercy, we’re invited to let that same mercy flow through us toward everyone who has hurt us. Forgiveness isn’t just something asked of us — it’s a grace we get to share, a reflection of the love we’ve already received. Have the courage to forgive as we have been forgiven — for it is in letting go that we finally become free.

Have a blessed day.

Yours in Christ,

Father Edward Domme

Copyright © 2026 Servants of the Word, source: dailyscripture.net, author Don Schwager

Our Lady of the Assumption Church

Rev.
