Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Family,

The incident in today’s Gospel reveals something important about how God interacts with us. Bartimaeus was determined to get Jesus’ attention and remained persistent despite opposition from the crowd. Jesus could have chosen to ignore or push him away because he was interrupting. Instead, He demonstrated that actions speak louder than words. Jesus responded to Bartimaeus’ need by empathizing with his suffering and relieving his pain. While a great speaker might command attention and respect, it is a compassionate heart and a helping hand that truly draw people in.

Why did Jesus ask Bartimaeus, “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus wanted to encourage a personal response of faith and trust in His power to heal and restore. He commended Bartimaeus for recognizing Him through “eyes of faith” and granted him physical sight. Through the eyes of faith, we can all recognize Jesus as our merciful healer. Ask Jesus to strengthen your faith so you may draw near to Him and receive His grace and mercy.

Have a peaceful day.

Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
