First Sunday of Advent

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,

Since the early first centuries of the Christian era, churches in the East and the West have marked special seasons to celebrate the central truths of our Christian faith. The Advent Season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to the second coming of Christ. The season precedes Christmas and Epiphany and reminds us that we are pilgrims, exiles who long for our true home with God and wait with joyful hope for the return of Jesus.

Jesus wants us to be alert and watchful for His second coming. He calls to us every day and knocks on the door of our hearts. Listen for His voice and welcome Him into your life. Let His word in the Scriptures and the work of the Holy Spirit dwelling in you draw you to a deeper faith and a yearning for His kingdom.

The first candle of Advent is the Prophecy Candle, representing hope. Wait, hopefully, for the Lord, and be watchful. The day will come when He brings you to His banquet table to feast with Him. May Advent awaken us to the hopeful anticipation of God’s presence in our lives.

Have a blessed Advent Season.

Yours in Christ,
Father E. Domme
