Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
January 26, 2025

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,

In today’s Gospel, Luke tells us that Jesus chose to announce His mission in the synagogue at Nazareth. The people there were familiar with Jesus as He regularly attended the weekly Sabbath service. When the synagogue president called on Him to read from the book of Isaiah, Jesus chose a passage that described what the Messiah would do when He came to restore God’s kingdom. He read:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me to
bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to
captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go
free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord”.

Jesus speaks the same words to us today; He comes to offer healing and restoration from the oppression of sin and hopelessness. Believe His words with expectant faith and trust, and ask Him to renew in you the joy of the Gospel and the freedom to live each day with trusting faith, joyful hope, and fervent love.

Have a peaceful day.

Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
