The Baptism of the Lord

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption  Parish Family,

Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River is His humble submission to a baptism of death upon the cross. Jesus didn’t need baptism—he had no sins. But he chose to enter the water to show us the way to new life. Jesus submitted himself entirely to his Father’s will. Out of love, he consented to this baptism of death for the forgiveness of our sins. The heavens opened for Jesus at the Jordan, and they will open for us, too, when we bow before the Lord with humble hearts.

Jesus is ready to renew us in His likeness through the Holy Spirit, and He anoints us for mission as disciples of His kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy.”  We are called to be the “light” and salt” of His kingdom and radiate the beauty of His mercy and goodness to those around us. Jesus wants His love and truth to shine through us so that others may find new life and joy in the Holy Spirit. He calls each of us to be humble and to trust God completely. Ask the Lord Jesus to fill you with His Holy Spirit that you may radiate the joy of the Gospel to those around you.
Have a peaceful day.

Yours in Christ,
Father Edward C. Domme
