Second Sunday of Easter, Sunday of Divine Mercy

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,

On the evening of that first Easter, the disciples were hiding behind locked doors — afraid, uncertain, and still weighed down by grief. Yet Jesus came and stood among them, not with judgment, but with a greeting of peace. He didn’t wait for them to have it all together. He met them exactly where they were, breathed the Holy Spirit into them, and sent them out renewed. That is who our God is: one who enters our fear and transforms it into mission.

And then there is Thomas, the one who doubted and is a natural pessimist. He is the last apostle to meet Jesus. He needed to see and touch before he could believe. Jesus did not scold him. He invited him closer. Thomas’s moment of doubt became the occasion for one of the most profound professions of faith in all of Scripture: “My Lord and my God! This passage reminds us that faith does not require perfection. It only requires honesty and openness to encounter Jesus. Blessed are we who, without seeing, still choose to trust and, like Thomas, proclaim that Jesus is “My Lord, and my God.”

Have a peaceful day.

Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
