Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
~My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord;
 I know them, and they follow me.~

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,

Jesus tells a simple story in today’s Gospel: a father asks two sons to work in the vineyard. One says no, but later has a change of heart and goes. The other says yes, and never shows up. It’s not the son who says the right words who pleases the father — it’s the one whose heart eventually turns toward him. Jesus isn’t condemning the son who initially refused — instead, He honors his transformation. God isn’t keeping score of our first answers. He’s watching for the movement of our heart, no matter how long it takes.

This is good news for anyone who has said no to God and meant it — and later found themselves walking back toward the vineyard. Jesus tells this parable to religious leaders who prided themselves on saying yes, and reminds them that tax collectors and sinners—people written off as lost causes—were entering His kingdom ahead of them because they let their “no” become a “yes.”  God will wait patiently for your “yes” to catch up with your heart. It’s never too late to move closer to God. He forgives us for the times we say yes with our lips but no with our lives. Ask for the grace to change your mind toward God, and the courage to follow Him.

Have a peaceful day.

Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
