Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear OLA Parish Family,

Jesus’ sleeping presence on the storm-tossed sea reveals His disciples’ lack of faith. They thought their boat could sink, even though Christ Himself was in their boat with them. They had seen Him perform miracles, heard His wisdom, and witnessed His power over the human heart. Still, they thought their boat could sink, even though Christ Himself was in their boat. They did not realize that He was present in their hour of need. When they woke Him, Jesus asked His disciples: Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?

We doubt too: when we hesitate to follow a particular Church teaching; when we hesitate to obey the voice of our conscience; when we delay going to confession; when we let frustration and anxiety carry us away in the face of difficulties… In these ways, like the disciples, we show that we don’t know Christ as well as we should either. When we are overwhelmed by the trials in our lives, we should trust in God’s plan for us by reaching out to Him. If we trust in God, He will lead us to our spiritual maturity and wisdom. It will enable us to act with justice and kindness towards all, even in the face of opposition or harm. Allow the love of Christ to rule in your heart and mind and move you to choose what is good and in harmony with God’s will for your life.

Have a peaceful day!

Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
