Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear OLA Parish Family,

In today’s gospel what did the elderly woman who had suffered miserably for twelve years expect Jesus to do for her? And what did a grieving father expect Jesus to do for his beloved daughter who was at the point of death? Jesus gave hope where there seemed to be no human cause for it because His hope was directed by God. He spoke words of hope to the woman (Take heart, daughter!) to ignite the spark of faith in her (your faith has made you well!). Jesus had a personal concern for the needs of others and He was always ready to heal and restore life.

Jesus summarizes both the costs of discipleship and its rewards.  The conditions of discipleship outlined in the Gospels may appear harsh. Yet they underline for us a truth—choosing anything with one’s whole heart has consequences. Choosing life with Christ means that every relationship we have must be understood from a new perspective.  To welcome another in Jesus  name is to extend a helping hand to Jesus Himself. Follow the example of Jesus Christ in your daily life. To do this, help those in need, be a welcoming presence to all, and serve as a living sign of God’s love through your actions and words.

Have a blessed day.

Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
