Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time

Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time
You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tests His disciples with a crucial question: “Who do people say I am, and who do you say I am?” Simon boldly exclaimed, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” This truth was not revealed to Simon through human understanding but could come only directly from God the Father. Simon was the first apostle to recognize Jesus as the Anointed One, the Messiah. Because of his firm faith, Christ changed Simon’s name to Peter and entrusted him with the keys to His heavenly kingdom.
Through His questions to His disciples, Jesus invites us to a deeper gain a deeper understanding of Him. Beyond what we hear about Christ, we need to develop a personal relationship with Him. Spend time with Jesus in quiet reflection and prayer. Open your heart, and get to know Him in a deep, personal way. Profess your belief in Him boldly like Peter. Jesus gave Peter the authority to lead the church that He would build, a church that no powers would overcome because it is founded on the rock, which is Christ Himself. Like Peter, we are all Christ’s disciples. The cross of Jesus Christ leads to victory over sin and death. When we surrender our lives to God, He gives us new life in His Spirit and the promise of eternal life.
Have a peaceful day.
Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
