Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,

Jesus sent the disciples to sail across the lake. When encountering rough seas, they feared for their lives even though they were experienced fishermen. While Jesus was not with them in the boat, He nonetheless watched over them in prayer. When He perceived their trouble, Jesus came to them on the sea and startled them with His sudden appearance. Peter called out to Him, and Jesus told Peter to come to Him. When Peter faltered, Jesus reached out and saved him. Fortunately for him, in the moment of his failure, Peter reached out to Jesus and was saved. The lesson for us is to know that when trials or adversity come our way, we are not alone; Jesus is always with us. He is present in all our lives.

Jesus keeps watch over us at all times, especially in our moments of difficulty. Jesus assures us that we have no need of fear if we trust in Him and His great love for us. When trials threaten and are overwhelming, respond with faith and hope in God’s love. Trust in Jesus and His presence and power to help you. In your moments of doubt and weakness, cling to Him as Peter did. Let the peace of knowing God and being faithful to His teachings guide you to the light of His kingdom. Being a follower of Jesus requires great sacrifice, grace, and a willingness to show mercy. In so doing, God promises you a reward greater than anything you can imagine when you come into His heavenly kingdom.

Have a peaceful day.

Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
