Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,
Jesus began his Sermon on the Mount by addressing the issue of true happiness. He gave us the Beatitudes as instructions that describe the rewards that will be ours as followers of Christ. The word beatitude means happiness or blessedness. We know from experience that no one can escape all life’s trials – pain, suffering, sickness, and death. When Jesus began to teach his disciples, he gave them a path that transcends every difficulty and trouble that can weigh us down with grief and despair.
If we want to be filled with the joy of heaven, we must empty ourselves of everything that separates us from God. The hunger of the spirit seeks His nourishment and strength. The poverty of the spirit finds joy in possessing God alone as the greatest treasure. God reveals the true source of abundant life and happiness to the humble heart. Acting with confidence that God will work through us to make His vision a reality requires “blessed” ways of acting. By acting blessed, we imitate the life of Jesus, who showed mercy to the needy, granted pardon to sinners, cared for the weak and simple, and healed the sick. If you desire God above all else, you will discover perfect joy in doing His will.
Have a blessed day!
Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
