Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
February 9, 2025

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,

Jesus told Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Although Simon was wearied from a night of fruitless toil, he nonetheless did what Jesus asked: At your word, I will let down the nets. Jesus did this to teach His disciples an important lesson. When we encounter disappointment and failure, like Simon, we must press upon the Lord to hear His word and to receive His command. God works in and through each of us for His glory. He expects greater things from us than we can achieve on our own.

When we cooperate with His works, we accomplish much more than we could by ourselves. God chooses ordinary people like you and me as His ambassadors and uses the simple circumstances of our daily lives and work environments to draw others into His kingdom. Jesus conveys the same message today: we will “catch people” for the kingdom of God if we let the light of Jesus Christ shine through us. God wants others to see the light of Christ in us through the way we live, speak, and demonstrate the joy of the Gospel. Share the joy of the Gospel with those around you and pray for your neighbors, co-workers, and relatives that they may come to know Jesus Christ and grow in the understanding of His love and truth.

Have a peaceful day.

Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
