Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
January 19, 2025
Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,
Jesus brought blessings and joy to a newly married couple at their wedding party. First by His presence and second by saving them from embarrassment when the wine ran out. Changing water into wine was a remarkable act of kindness, but providing the finest wine last defied the customs of the time. In the Old Testament, wine is both a gift and a blessing from God; that Jesus would miraculously produce one hundred and twenty gallons of the best wine shows the superabundance of the blessings He came to offer.
This miracle signifies the “new rich wine” of the Gospel, and it points to the “wine of the new covenant” and the “bread of life” that Jesus provides for His disciples in the Lord’s Supper. The miracles of Jesus demonstrate the power of God’s love and mercy for His people, a love and kindness that knows no limits. The ultimate expression of God’s love is revealed through His Son, Jesus Christ, who became flesh for our sake, died for our redemption, and rose so that we, too, might be raised and glorified with Him.
Have a peaceful day.
Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
