Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,
When Jesus looked out at the crowd, he didn’t see a problem to manage. He saw people who were troubled and abandoned, and His heart was filled with compassion. “They were like sheep without a shepherd.” When Jesus proclaimed the good news of God’s kingdom, he also demonstrated the power of the Gospel with supernatural signs. Jesus healed people who suffered physical, emotional, and mental illnesses. He came to free people from whatever was holding them back. He gave his disciples that same gift to share with others.
Jesus didn’t wait for perfect conditions or perfectly prepared people. He called twelve ordinary men and sent them out to heal the sick, to bring good news to those who needed it most, to give freely what they themselves had freely received. Jesus wanted ordinary people who could take an assignment and do it extraordinarily well. He chose these men, not for what they were, but for what they would be capable of becoming under his direction and power. When the Lord calls us to serve, we must not think we have nothing to offer. The Lord takes what ordinary people, like us, can offer and uses it for greatness in his kingdom. When Jesus chooses you to be His disciple, allow Him to take and use what you can offer, however meager it may seem, for His greater glory.
