Second Sunday of Lent
March 16, 2025
Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,
Luke’s Gospel account tells us that while Jesus was transfigured, Peter, James, and John were asleep (Luke 9:32). Upon waking, they discovered Jesus in His glory, accompanied by Moses and Elijah. How much do we miss of God’s glory and action because we are spiritually asleep? Many factors can keep our minds dull to the things of God: mental lethargy and the “unexamined life” can prevent us from thoroughly contemplating our doubts and questions. A life of ease can also hinder us from grappling with Christ’s challenging demands. Prejudice can blind us to the new things the Lord may have in store. Even sorrow can obstruct our vision until we look past it to see God’s glory.
Peter, James, and John were privileged witnesses of Christ’s glory. We, too, as disciples of Christ, are called to be witnesses of His glory. Jesus embraced the cross to obtain the crown of glory that awaits us if we follow in His footsteps. He shows us the way to the kingdom of heaven – Take the path I have chosen for you, and you will receive the blessing of my Father’s kingdom; your name will also be written in heaven. Jesus fulfilled His mission on Calvary, where He died for our sins and restored everlasting life for us. We are changed and transformed into Christ’s likeness if we look to Him every day with faith and strive to walk according to the light of His truth. Jesus is God’s beloved Son. Listen to him!
Have a blessed day.
Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
