Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord

Dear OLA Parish Family,

In today’s Gospel, it is significant that the stone was rolled away from the tomb. Soldiers guarded the sealed tomb, and it would have taken several people to move such a stone. The stone was rolled back not to open a way for Jesus to come through but to provide evidence that Jesus had come forth. Clearly, this is the first sign of His resurrection. The disciples had to first deal with the empty tomb before they could come to grips with the fact that scripture had foretold that Jesus would die for our sins and then rise triumphantly. “He gave Himself up for our salvation!” We must remember, though, that we are not in a time of mourning but rather a time to contemplate and act in the way of the cross.

One thing is sure: if Jesus had not risen from the dead and appeared to his disciples, we would never have heard of him. Nothing else could have changed sad and despairing men and women into people radiant with joy and courage. The reality of the resurrection is the central mystery of our Catholic faith. Today marks the Resurrection of Christ and the beginning of the Easter Season. During this special season, devote yourself to quality time in daily prayer. The greatest joy we can have is to encounter and know Jesus personally. Celebrate the feast of Easter today and every day with joy and thanksgiving!

Have a Glorious Easter!

Yours in Christ,
Father Edward Domme
