Third Sunday of Lent
Yours in Christ,
Father Edward C. Domme
Third Sunday of Lent
Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Family,
The Samaritans and Jews had been bitter rivals for centuries. Though they shared the same land, they avoided all contact with each other — no trade, no socializing, no intermarriage — and encounters between them could easily turn hostile. So when Jesus walked through Samaria and stopped to have a conversation with a Samaritan woman, it was genuinely radical. He was reaching across one of the sharpest social and religious divides of His time.
In today’s readings, the water which Jesus spoke of is the Holy Spirit poured into us making us new and it flows to those willing to admit they are thirsty. The image of “living water” is used throughout the scriptures as a symbol of God’s wisdom, a wisdom that imparts life and blessing to all who receive it. No one is barred from the love of God and the good news of salvation. Only one thing can keep us from God and His redeeming love: our stubborn pride and willful rebellion. Let the Holy Spirit be your guide to find joy in the presence of God and happiness in doing His will.
Have a blessed day.
Have a blessed day.
